If you haven't visited a refill shop before, then don't panic. You'll probably have some questions so please keep scrolling and check out the HOW TO page for a simple step-by-step.
The simple principle of refill shopping is that you bring the containers and fill them with the goodies onboard. We function like any refill shop….the difference is WE COME TO YOU (or somewhere conveniently close)!
Our aim is to visit local villages (and pockets of Saffron Walden) for a few hours at a time and see as many of you as possible, before moving to the next location.
Households produce a lot of general waste that mostly ends up in landfill. There are sooo many facts and stats about this which are truly horrifying.
Recycling is great (in theory), but a lot of what we throw in our green bins DOES NOT end up getting recycled - again, dreadful stories of our "recycling" getting shipped to international countries to then get dumped elsewhere.
RECYCLED PRODUCTS HAVE A CARBON FOOTPRINT!
First there is the manufacturing of the product in its first life, then there is the logistics from getting that packaging to you and then back to a recycling centre (if it ever gets there), finally there's the carbon-footprint of getting that product recycled into something usable again.
Of course choosing recycled over something that is not-recyclable is better but there is still a process.
WE'RE NOT PERFECT
Our household is far from perfect. It's almost impossible to be when you become accustomed to shopping the way we all have. BUT, if we can all do more, then it will make a huge impact.
"We don't need a handful of people doing zero-waste perfectly. We need millions of people doing it imperfectly"
Anne-Marie Bonneau - Zero Waste Chef
